I've been inspired, since the birth of my son, to design some prints for baby & childrens rooms and first off I've been working away on a range of vibrant watercolour Dinosaur paintings! I first had the idea whilst on maternity leave and whilst my wee man was resting I got down to some sketching.
Admittedly this has been a very slow process, things seem to be that way when you have a baby, now a toddler! I started researching interesting looking dinosaurs but found it a bit limiting as there are so many cool dinosaurs to choose from! I then decided it might be quite fun to do a whole A-Z of dinosaurs!
I started thinking about colours and rough sketched out each dinosaur for each letter, thanks to many books and the Natural History museum for such unending resources about dinosaurs I now know the difference between sauropods, theropods, ornithopods and ceratopsians!
I did a rough mockup of how I visualised the art print to look, initially knowing I wanted it to be a large print.
The range includes dinosaurs from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods so you'll recognise some of the most popular species but some little known unusual creatures too. A range of diverse reptiles none the less!
I've really enjoyed learning about dinosaurs again and have dived into reptile & lizard books to take inspiration for how they would've looked and have had so much fun reimagining them into vibrant watercolour creatures.
